The singer showcases her acting chops in the new music video for Now Or Never, which was unveiled on YouTube on Tuesday.
Set to a R&B track, the entertainer plays out a Romeo and Juliet-like fantasy, that sees her in the throes of passion with her lover amid a violent feud between their gangs.
Halsey, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, strips down to her lace underwear and enjoys an intimate encounter with a hunky enemy of her faction.
When tension between the groups peak, she seeks guidance from a tarot card reader, but the interpretation of their fate is rather mysterious.
I see a love so pure, it moves the heavens,' he tells her.
'Does it endure?' she asks. 'It is true,' he responds, 'the love never falters, but, I also see an interference with this love.
'I'm afraid the souls may never align, but, there is another way,' he says, before the meeting is interrupted and Halsey is whisked away.
Co-directed by Sing J Lee, the video, shot in Mexico City, concludes with a shootout on a freeway, but Halsey manages to escape.
The final clip shows the singer cutting her blue-dyed hair.
Some of the scenes nod 1996's Romeo + Juliet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. Neon-lit crosses, saturated colors and other iconography take inspiration from the hit film.
'[It] is one part in the center of a long narrative that tells the story of two people in love despite the forces trying to keep them apart,' Halsey said in a statement. 'On its own, the song is about two impatient young lovers, but in the context of the universe, the stakes are much higher for these two star-crossed lovers.'
Now Or Never is the lead single off Halsey's sophomore album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom,' due June 2.
Halsey scored a career boost with a 2017 Grammy Award nomination as a featured artist in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for the hit Closer, performed by The Chainsmokers.
