On Wednesday the channel revealed that the 33-year-old Workaholics star will be the host at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on May 7.
This is the first time in 25 years that MTV is including television categories in the awards show.
And they let fans know about it by releasing a hilarious 45-second teaser, starring Adam riffing on the awards' gold cup of popcorn statuette.
The comic actor drives into a neighborhood in a popcorn truck chased by a gang of youngsters all eager for the treat.
'Who here wants to see TV and movies hook up? Yeah!' he shouts to the cheering crowd of teens.
'OK, now I think it's time to get this party popping,' as he presses the button on an MTV popcorn award, which evidently didn't do what he was expecting.
After another go popcorn explodes out of the back of the truck and rains down on the crowd.
'If everybody could just sweep it into a pile and put it into the back of the truck, I'd really appreciate it,' the Pitch Perfect star pleaded.
'Please do not eat it...honey, that's disgusting.'
Meanwhile, Workaholics has wrapped after seven seasons.
But Adam has plenty of work in the offing including movie comedies When We First Met, Magic Camp and Game Over, Man.
